Q: Is the community well established and fiscally sound? Is it established with a proven track record or
brand new with no track record?
A: Yes. Canterbury Village was established in 1921. The majority of our caring and knowledgeable executive, business and administrative staff have long employment histories with Canterbury Village. An annual report is available by request.
Q: Where is Canterbury Village located? Is it close to shopping, hospitals, doctors, etc.?
A: We're situated in Essex County, NJ off Interstate 280 conveniently located to NYC with a public bus stop in front of the facility.
Q: Is it a profit or non-profit organization?
Q: Is there a waiting list? If so, what is the average wait? What happens if my name comes up on the
waiting list and I’m not ready?
A: Depending on the census at the time you are looking, yes, there may be a wait. However, putting your name on the waiting list with your application and fee will get the process moving. If your particular housing choice becomes available, we’ll call you. If you’re not ready, you will not lose your place on the wait list.
Q: What is the minimum age for residency?
Q: What types of accommodations are available?
A: We offer three room styles:
- Deluxe Private
- All rooms on one level with private baths and large closets
- Rooms fully sprinkler-protected
- 24-hour emergency call system
- Individually controlled air conditioning and heating.
Q: What services and utilities are included as part of the monthly fee?
A: Meals, housekeeping and laundry services are included, as well as all utilities. Utilities
included are electric, heat/air conditioning, water, trash & recycling collection, as well as basic cable television.
Q: What other additional expenses am I responsible for?
- Private duty aide
- Transportation to appointments
- Personal and medical supplies, medications
- On-site beauty/barber salon
- Internet, however Wi-Fi is free to residents and guests
Q: What personal care services are available?
- Supervision and assistance with medication administration
- Assistance with ADLs, such as dressing, bathing and personal care
Q: What physician will I see?
A: Upon moving into Canterbury Village, we require that you have a local doctor. If you have
your own local doctors, you can continue using them independently. We have listings of local doctors for your convenience. Pharmacy services are also available.
Q: Do I bring my own furniture?
A: We can provide basic furnishings, however mattress and box spring must be provided by resident. We encourage residents to bring their own furnishings.
Q: Are pets allowed?
A: Pets are not allowed.
